Kenshi no Akai Tachi, or the '98 Military Sword (Red)', shows the great tradition of Japanese sword making. This katana is 103 cm long, with a 72 cm blade made from strong manganese steel. The blade is 3.2 cm wide and 0.7 cm thick, making it very impressive. It weighs about 1.5 kg and has a sturdy wooden handle wrapped in traditional cord. The sword also has a metal tsuba and a solid wood scabbard covered in real leather.
